This establishment takes the crown as the worst, most disgusting, and outright dangerous place I’ve ever given my patronage.
Does anyone enjoy the smells of vomit, feces, and urine? What about many instances of severely inebriated minors spilling drinks on your clothes? Dancing is fun for many, but do you like when songs abruptly transition every 20 seconds? I, personally, really love having my bank account drained when attempting to order a vodka soda, don’t you? Does you mind touch the void when waiting in the numerous lines throughout the interior and exterior? Do the eyes of the (vape in hand and mouth) manager glare back in the darkness? What about the blood covered entryway, does that scare you? Was that threatening feeling; as if the bouncer was about to punch you while checking IDs just me? Did the bouncer, unprovoked, punch your friend too? Apparently, this is the only bar in salt lake where people aren’t allowed to ask why they are being denied entry, they’ll simply receive a concussion; given to them by none-other than the for-said bouncer; is this a place you would like to visit? Is it normal for a bar to encourage assault? Is it normal for a bar to lie to abused patrons? Is it okay for bouncers to grope and beat people who are trying to dance with their friends? Why do they laugh and accept anyone into this bar, regardless of age? Why do they employ known felons with violent records? Is it okay to have these people checking your friends, children, and loved-ones id’s?
This review comes from many different experiences that have had while attempting to dance with friends at this bar. These aren’t unique or uncommon experiences. Ask your friends, your kids, anyone you know who has been to this bar: “did you enjoy your time at shades on state”? Their answers will disgust you. I’m shocked this place has over three stars. It simply should be shut down.
Shades on state, please close your doors for good.
Sincerely, Andrew
this place isn't even last resort just go home. the bouncers are disgusting and will assault you if you even look at them the wrong way it gives a dark feeling even if you're outside the bar, they have a camera but it's turned off because the bouncers are abusive & in the wrong so there's a low chance of them actually getting caught. they let underaged kids go in, manager is short white blonde lady and has proven she has no "managing" skills, they are the opposite of safety I would steer clear of this place if you want a fun safe night out.
Idk it was alright. We brought a friend for his 21st birthday as we were just bar hopping, the drinks were okay but didn’t seem to have much alcohol but at least tasted good. $10 I think for the special cocktail of the night (mind eraser) if you’re already slightly drunk it should be alright, so long as you enjoy blaring music, dark atmosphere, and the song changing every 45 seconds. If you’re just trying to party it’s aight.
Go you won't regret it!! I can't say enough amazing things about this place. The atmosphere Amazing ❤ Food Amazing ❤ Staff so incredible, sweet and Amazing!! Brunch with the girls, hanging out with good friends. Amazing beer selection #localbeer ( Support your local business) and the food so fresh with so much flavor. If there is one place you should try this year, This is the place!! Thank you Austin! Your the best!!! Ask for Austin is hands down the best!! #Bestbrunch #amazinglocalbeer #brunch
I came in 11/24 at night. I never leave negative reviews because I believe in supporting local businesses, I am not sure which security guy we talked to. I should have grabbed his name, but he did NOTHING and said he had to see it for him to do something. The first two minutes we walked in my friend told this guy that she wasn’t interested and then he verbally assaulted us, started pushing us, calling us derogatory names and being really rude. When we told him to go away he grabbed my other friends hand and kissed it. I have never felt this way because security will usually handle a situation if someone isn’t being respectful. All of my girlies and I felt so unsafe that we left after being in there for a couple of minutes.
I have been there a couple of times before and the music is really good. I think there is room for growth on how security should handle these type of situations.
Pretty vile establishment, would recommend going literally anywhere else. A group of my friends stopped by here on a night out and were already inside. As I was walking a few blocks to meet them there, they were already complaining to me …
I never write bad reviews, even when I probably should, but this is the worst bar to go to in all of Utah. They hire a bunch of degenerate junkies as bouncers, who almost always seem intoxicated on the job and are incredibly aggressive. I have witnessed one assault and have had friends get assaulted as well. One of which occurred a few nights ago. My friend was told he wasn't allowed inside after letting in all of his friends, and when he stepped forward in confusion as to why he wasn't allowed inside, he was sucker punched and knocked unconscious. He received a concussion and still looks like a bloody mess. I have also witnessed several underage drinkers getting hammered inside and showing off how bad their fake ID was. They primarily let in underage girls, and I've witnessed the bouncers not even care to look at their ID's. Once, a bouncer told me my ID was the most real ID he'd seen in the line, and I was dumbfounded that he would admit that he's practically purposeless. I am in awe that this place is still able to operate. They have a camera above the doorway, but it is never on, and I think it's because they know they are breaking the law regularly. The drinks are overpriced, and the food is disgusting. The only good thing about this place is the unique couches they have everywhere, but the couches seem very used and gross. The manager is some blonde girl who hits her vape 20 times a minute and serves no purpose. Do not go to this establishment. I promise it is not worth the trouble.
This space is absolutely amazing! Went for Drag Brunch on Sunday. Ordered a bottle of champagne 🥂 for self serve mimosas at the table as its the best deal! I had the breakfast sandwich that was absolutely delicious! The drag show was phenomenal and one of the best I've seen in this city. So engaging with the crowd.
During the quick 20-30min intermission the dj played. He hit all those favorite tracks and before long people took over the dance floor to dance and sing. Absolutely recommended you go to this coffee shop each day and night is different.
